Natural Resources Conservation Service

Through a grant partnership with the National Conservation Resources Services (NCRS), three ponds are currently being excavated and landscaped in New Moon Foundation’s higher elevation lands to support the repopulation of the endangered Hawaiian Koloa Duck. The Koloa is one of only three endemic water fowl existing in the Hawaiian Islands today. Restoring and protecting wetlands in Kohala are critical in the recovery of the species.

The Wetlands Restoration Project is administered by the NCRS in agreement with the Farm Service Agency and in consultation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service and other cooperating agencies and organizations.
